Murray Schafer explicitly took issue with Schaeffer's positions in his book The Tuning of the World (although it's been a while since I read it, and I don't own a copy to verify). And wrote the book “The Tuning of the World” (1977), which was the definitive text of his Soundscapes are part of our everyday lives and as more research is done, with more value to those results it can be put to good use with a different approach to noise reduction, making our environments more pleasant in a sonic sense.
